Trip Information
Arrival, Welcome, and Start of Trek
Providing us with your flight schedule ahead of time allows our representative to greet you directly at Tribhuvan International Airport holding a personalized name card.
Upon landing, you will receive a traditional Nepali greeting with a Khada silk scarf or fresh marigold garland before being chauffeured to your hotel via private transport. We are also happy to assist with hotel bookings upon request.
Accommodation During the Trek
Your journey includes 13 total nights housed in local teahouses and mountain lodges, with standard arrangements based on twin-sharing rooms.
Ensuite attached bathrooms are provided during your stays in Lukla, Phakding (2 nights), and Namche Bazaar (3 nights). Standard accommodations with shared bathroom facilities are utilized in Tengboche (2 nights), Lobuche, Dingboche (2 nights), Gorakshep, and Pheriche.
Device charging stations, Wi-Fi connectivity, and hot water showers are accessible at most stops, though local lodges may request a nominal fee for these amenities.
Meals Provided on the Trek
The itinerary covers 14 breakfasts, 13 lunches, and 14 dinners throughout the trek, with every meal featuring one main course selection.
Dining options span traditional Nepali fare, Tibetan options such as steamed momos and chow mein, alongside familiar Western staples like burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas. Sustained energy levels are best maintained through nutrient-dense local dishes like dal bhat (lentil soup with rice) and fresh vegetable curry.
To support proper acclimatization, prioritize hydration with hot garlic soup, ginger tea, lemon tea, or green tea. It is best to avoid meat, dairy, alcoholic drinks, caffeine, and hot chocolate while scaling higher altitudes.
Please note that personal beverages—including soft drinks, specialty teas, coffees, and alcohol—are not included in the package and require separate payment.
Luggage and Porter Service
A designated porter is paired with every two trekkers. Each porter handles a maximum load of 18 kg, limiting individual bag weights to 9 kg per person.
We advise sharing a durable duffle bag (60+ liters) with your companion. Any non-essential luggage or city clothing can be left behind securely at your Kathmandu hotel or our office store free of charge.
Facilities and Essentials
Water: While commercially bottled water is sold along the path, utilizing a reusable bottle filled with boiled or treated water helps minimize environmental impact. Purification tablets are available upon request.
Communication: Local SIM cards can be acquired easily in Kathmandu, though cellular coverage becomes spotty at elevated altitudes. Our central office remains in daily communication with your lead guide to address any logistical or emergency needs.
Important Travel Information
Visa: Entry visas are mandatory for most international travelers (excluding Indian passport holders). On-arrival visas can be obtained at Kathmandu airport by presenting a passport valid for at least 6 months, two passport photos, and the applicable fee (approx. USD 50 for a 30-day visa).
Travel Insurance: Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory and must explicitly cover medical emergencies alongside high-altitude helicopter rescue up to 5,500 meters altitude.
Currency Exchange: The current exchange rate floats near 1 USD to 133 Nepalese Rupees (NPR). Major foreign currencies (USD, GBP, EUR) are easily converted in Kathmandu, and local ATMs are widely accessible. For Indian currency, only INR 100 denominations are legally accepted.
Extra Costs: Personal spending funds—covering snacks, extra drinks, souvenirs, and staff tips—typically average around USD 15 per day.
Everest Base Camp Facts
Height: Everest Base Camp rests at an elevation of 5,364 meters (17,598 feet). Trekkers can also ascend nearby Kala Patthar (5,545 m) for unmatched panoramic views of Mount Everest’s summit.
Best Time to Trek: Springtime (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) offer optimal conditions with clear skies and stable temperatures. Daytime highs reach around 20°C in spring (-5°C at night) and 25°C in autumn (-10°C at night).
Monsoon summer months (June–August) bring heavy rain, muddy trails, and flight delays, while winter months (December–February) bring intense cold and heavy snowfall.
Flight Delays to Lukla
Mountain weather unpredictability can cause flight reschedules between Kathmandu/Ramechhap and Lukla. Unscheduled helicopter charter options exist but carry significant costs ($500–$1,000 per seat). Building two buffer days into your travel timeline is strongly recommended.
Trek Difficulty
Demanding yet achievable for those with good physical condition, the route requires 5 to 7 hours of daily hiking over steep, uneven terrain under lower oxygen levels. Steady pacing and proper acclimatization ensure a rewarding ascent.
Preparation for Everest Base Camp Trek
Success on the trail hinges on well-rounded preparation:
- Fitness: Build cardiovascular stamina months ahead through regular jogging, swimming, cycling, or hill hiking.
- Strength: Target core and lower-body strength to maintain balance across rocky inclines.
- Altitude Awareness: Familiarize yourself with Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) symptoms, proper hydration habits, and altitude safety protocols.
- Packing: Prepare high-quality moisture-wicking layers, sturdy broken-in hiking boots, thermal base wear, and insulated gloves.
Maintaining a positive mindset is essential to working through challenging physical stretches. For extra guidance, review practical tips for trekking in the Everest region.
Acclimatization and Altitude Sickness
Reaching elevations above 3,000 meters requires strategic rest stops. Our itinerary incorporates dedicated acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche to help your body adapt naturally.
Our field crew is fully trained in altitude illness management. Maintain a moderate pace, stay hydrated, and communicate openly with your guide.
Typical Day on the Everest Base Camp Trek
Daily routines blend scenic trekking, cultural encounters in Sherpa villages, and local dining. Porters handle heavy duffels, allowing you to carry only essential items in a lightweight daypack.
- Mornings begin with breakfast around 7:00 AM or 8:00 AM.
- The morning leg lasts 3 to 4 hours before stopping for a relaxed lunch break.
- Afternoon walks average 2 hours before arriving at your evening lodge.
- Evenings feature downtime, hot tea, snacks, and dinner served between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
- Post-dinner activities include route briefings for the next day, card games, or social time around the lodge heater.

- Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Regional Permit: A local municipality permit supporting sustainable infrastructure development throughout the Khumbu valley.

Ecotourism Practices in the Everest Region
We actively practice Leave No Trace principles. By discouraging single-use plastic bottles, utilizing refillable systems, and collaborating with local organizations like KEEP, we work to protect fragile alpine environments for future generations.
Tipping Culture
Tipping is a customary tradition in Nepal to express gratitude (Dhanyabad) for field staff efforts. Tipping is typically presented as a collective group pool at the conclusion of the trek.
